Moving house and the room

Should be moving soon.

I am still not counting chickens, touching wood and tipping my hat to magpies, but things appear to be in the final stretch. It has been a huge and stressful slog to get to this stage, with prior disappointments being very taxing on the ole blood pressure

It will cost us a ...

Re: Nothing In Particular

The technics is now spot on, fires straight up to speed and doesnt drift. All good, the work done has sorted it completely.

The jvc however, has me a bit stumped.

It hums on both channels, not very much, but enough for me to investigate. I cant find a fault. Hum is a bit louder on the right ...

Re: Reel to reel

Well i havent had an r2r for a few years now, i have a hankering for another one for some reason. I swapped the akai for a linn mimik cd player which since packed in. Oh wailey wailey.

Get a bonus from work and some back pay for our pay increase next month. I might have to buy another one. Maybe ...

Re: Nothing In Particular

It is a fair bit different looking to the sl1100 /110 motor and the sl1200mk1 and 120mk1, a first attempt at cost saving when they realised they were onto something with their first gen motors maybe?

The all in one mkl15 motor seems to have been a parallel development as a standalone unit for sale ...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Yep i checked the test points and they were where they needed to be, i was quite surprised that there were no adjustment necessary, but by the looks of it nobody other than me has had the board out since it left the factory and nothing has been touched, so i think its mainly because ive had the ...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Put it on again after being stone cold a couple of hours and its pretty stable straight away now, and pretty much spot on after a few minutes. A bit of a tweak of the speed control is all thats required after a few minutes.
The jvc has developed a slight hum on one channel now...... it starts if ...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Got the technics recapped today, all the electrolytics have been replaced thanks to nigel who has sent them over for me. While i was at it i took the on/off switch to bits and cleaned it all out, and cleaned the bearing out and re oiled it.

It seems to take about half an hour or so to stabilise ...

Re: My Niece's First Vinyl System

I did the same with a project arm installed on an lp12, bare wires to a tag strip then straight to a pair of sockets. was much better than the awful linn setup with its uber stiff arm cable.

Roksan also did the phono stage in the plinth thing from the factory with the artaxerxes phono stage. that ...

Re: My Niece's First Vinyl System

Those ones in wells look like you could get away with a rattlecan to clean up the black, i got a factory finish in the xerxes psu just using a rattle can and then a matt clearcoat. The joints look ok so the cabinets look pretty sound. Reveneering the burl veneer bit would probably cost a few quid ...

Re: My Niece's First Vinyl System

Problem now ray, is that you have opened that can of worms and you will be wanting one to faff about with. Then it will take up all your time and become a money pit

Re: My Niece's First Vinyl System

The jbe platter is interesting.

the centre is a machined aluminium disc with the centre hole machined to fit the taper on the bearing, its about 5 inches across with a 3/4 inch shoulder at the top. This is then screwed to an 11 1/4 inch acrylic disc with the corresponding 3 1/4 inch hole in the ...

Re: My Niece's First Vinyl System

I made some leather mats from foot square offcuts, cost me more to make a cutting jig and buy the right size punch for the centre hole. I quite like the leather ones they worked well with the lencos and the xerxes, better than the felt one on that
