IIRC, Colin was the person that brought me to this forum, well over a decade ago. For that, I've always been very grateful.
He was generous with his knowledge, and I was looking forward to collaborating with him on his next build, and also looking forward to the food/drink/good-company that such ...

Re: Super Tweeters
There are a few potential effects of adding supertweeters:
- Wider HF dispersion
- Increased HF output
- Depending on the HPF being used, they might well be adding some harmonic distortion to the lower treble, resulting in more upper-treble.
I can imagine that some combination of the above would ...

Re: Having a clear-out - free stuff here.
Okay, I'll pull them out of the cabinets and get some pictures uploaded. IIRC, they're somewhere-near full-range, and have whizzer cones.
Probably in the 10-30w power handling range, but very efficient as you'd expect.

Re: Having a clear-out - free stuff here.
Hi Daniel,
There's the pair of old Wharfedales (W12/EG), some 250w coaxial stage monitors, or the 300w (total) Ecler cabinets. All 12". What sort of thing are you looking for?
Obviously I'd rather keep the drivers in the cabinets for my own ease, but the above have been available for a little ...

Re: Having a clear-out - free stuff here.
Ray,
I've just uploaded some pictures of the Fostex units in the DropBox folder.
One of the drivers isn't quite perfect: there's a small dimple on the surround, and what looks like a very fine spray of something on the whizzer.
I've run some signal through them and they're both working as they ...

Yep, it seems like there are some gems to be had in the commercial world. I haven't heard your Q-Acoustics speakers, Steve, but I'm glad you're enjoying them.

Re: Having a clear-out - free stuff here.
Just a quick note that the Fostex monitors mentioned above are now available if anyone fancies them.
Ray, if I can drag myself away from my new speakers (see the Nothing In Particular thread), I'll have a rummage in the garage this afternoon and see what's what.

Re: Nothing In Particular
Different latitude, I expect.
In unrelated news, for the first time in years, I've bought a pair of off-the-shelf finished speakers. I looked at everything they do, everything I might be able to do, and realised that I might (might) be able to get pretty close in some ways, but I'd never outright ...

Hi Ray,
The drivers & PRs are in their original boxes, but I'd need to find something to ship those in. I'll have a look around here and see what I've got that might work.

First I've heard of it, which is a shame - very local to me, but I have plans covering most of the day.
Let me know if it's a good one, and I'll see about next year.

Re: Having a clear-out - free stuff here.
Anyone still following along?
A few things have gone, but more stuff has been excavated. How about:
- A pair of Fostex FE166En
- A pair of Dayton 6.5" passive radiators
My plan there was to build a compact, high-efficiency pair of bookshelf speakers with 1x Fostex and 1x PR per side. If you don ...

Re: Concrete Baffled Speaker Renovation
Ray,
If there are any wooden external surfaces, there's no shame in adding a handle. The easiest would be a folding one, which screws to the surface of the wood. Even just one on the back would probably make life a lot easier.

Re: A new development of my 'SWANSONG' speakers
Just a thought, Colin:
One of the things that seemed to "work" for the big 'uns was that the mid-high range was something like a point-source.
To avoid messing with that, I'd consider an MTM arrangement, perhaps even going down to 2x mids per side. Bonus: If you seperated them into two cabinets ...

Re: Having a clear-out - free stuff here.
Interesting idea.
I think I'd approach it from the opposite direction: ditch the bass combo, and add a bass-related preamp to a conventional PA system. Some of the best bass tone I've heard has been via a high-impedance DI box.
It's a shame you're not closer to Sheffield - there's a load of PA ...

Re: Having a clear-out - free stuff here.
Hi Dave,
I used to use it to drive compression drivers in my PA system. The DDT limiters are basically inaudible, which is a nice feature, and it's compact, lightweight, and sounds fine - nothing obviously wrong with the sound, but I haven't given it a serious try in a HiFi application.
